The city of Rome is almost 3,000 old and grew from a small Italian village. In Roman empire times
Rome became the capital of an empire dominating the whole of the Mediterranean and at that time, the largest city in the world.
(and most likely the largest city ever built until the 19th century).
Today's Rome reflects the culture of the epochs of its long history, but it also is a huge contemporary metropolis.
